Each student is part of a family of learners

IST is a connected community! To encourage students to practice and demonstrate their character development, students and teachers in Primary are allocated to one of four IST houses – Fire (Red), Earth (Green), Wind (Yellow) or Water (Blue). At secondary, these houses have the additional added dimension of Phoenix (Red), Colossus (Green), Pegasus (Yellow), and Kraken (Blue).

Each house’s identity is grounded in its elements, creature, and unique logo, which serve as a rallying point for the community. Each student remains in their house throughout their time at IST and makes friends with older and younger students from outside their own classroom, granting opportunities for older students to act in a mentorship role to younger students. Students have the opportunity to earn House Points for achievements in academics, character, and community services, as well as at annual house events such as Sports day, the Spelling Bee, and during our numerous festivities. The house system also supports the transition to Secondary by immediately providing students with a recognizable community and support network of students. It is not uncommon for IST alumni to greet each other with “so, what house are you?”
